My nighttime skincare routine is one of the best, most relaxing parts of the day. My routine has evolved over the last few years and I’ve added products with more beneficial ingredients. Some nights I stick to my 7-8 steps of skincare, other nights, I wash my face and moisturize and that’s it. Either way, these are 5 products that I use and recommend to elevate your nighttime skincare routine.

Double Cleanser

I’m a regular makeup wearer and so double cleansing is a normal part of my nighttime routine. Double cleansing with an oil or gel based cleanser such as the DHC Cleansing Oil removes makeup, oil and dirt while hydrating my skin.

After I use the oil cleanser, I go in with my normal nighttime cleanser to make sure anything left behind is removed. The Good Molecules Rosewater Gel Cleanser is a gentle and affordable cleanser for my night routine. Check out my other recommendations for makeup removers from the drugstore for more options.

Eye Creams

Personally, I love a good eye cream in my nighttime routine. An eye cream is effective tool in my routine because my under eye is where my fine lines reside. Therefore, I use eye creams that not only hydrate but that have target ingredients for those concerns. For instance, my SKINFIX barrier +Triple lipid collagen and brightening cream has caffeine for puffiness, niacinamide and peptides for hydration and brightness. Of course you don’t need to buy a pricey eye cream, some nights I use my tried and true Vaseline under my eye and keep it moving.

Retinol

As you know, I’ve sang the praises of retinol many times and will continue to do so. In my 40’s retinol has probably been the most beneficial product in my nighttime routine. The benefits of retinol are plentiful and include increasing skin cell turnover which results in smoother skin. Also, retinol reduces fine lines and wrinkles and helps with unclogging pores. I like to use retinol in my nighttime routine to give it time to work while I sleep. I use a retinol serum like the Acure Beauty Retinoid Night Serum 3 times a week, and apply it right before my moisturizer.

Hydrating Serums

Hydrating serums are the secret weapon to my nighttime skincare routine. At night is when I really go in with layering my skincare and making sure it’s hydrated and healthy. Serums are the best in anti-aging skincare because they are best at treating hyperpigmentation, fine lines and elasticity. One of the newest serums in my collection is from Good Molecules Super Peptide Serum. This inexpensive, yet powerful serum has a blend of peptides that help brighten and hydrate my skin.

Serums are a must have in your nighttime routine, but they don’t have to be expensive to work. Check out my list of really great serums for under $25.

Moisturizers

I’m sure this one goes without saying, but moisturizers are essential to my nighttime skincare routine. Moisturizers are the last step for me and I use either a facial oil such as the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Oil or a cream based moisturizer like the CERAVE PM Moisturizer. My nighttime moisturizers are thicker in consistency and provide extra hydration to ensure my skin barrier is protected overnight.

I hope this list was helpful to you when considering products that elevate your nighttime skincare. Keep in mind that skincare is personal and what works for me and my dry skin, may not work for you. But don’t worry, my blog has tons of info on products for every skin type. As always, I’m here to answer any questions you may have.
