Lipstick is the cherry on top to your makeup look. Even on days when all you can manage is a brow and sunscreen, a little lipstick will pull the most minimal look together.

These days we are able to experiment with different shades and finishes of lipstick because of the wide variety of brands available. From a sheer wash of color of a flirty red shade, to a bold, matte vampy purple shade, we are not lacking in variety. Brown-girl friendly brands like Fenty, The Lip Bar and Mented Cosmetics have some of the best products on the market. And don’t sleep on the drug store, it is a playground for the makeup enthusiast to try and purchase various shades for little money.

For me, lipstick has been that beauty item that represented glamour. A vibrant red on a beautiful dame like Diahann Carroll or Eartha Kitt, two women who were the epitome of glamour made me believe that lipstick was for the fabulous and I wanted to be a part of it. I’m very rarely without lipstick when I go out, even now during a pandemic, I’ll work from home with a bright orange lipstick just because I can.

What is your favorite lipstick shade? As you know from a previous post, I am partial to red. However, I wear nude and pink lipstick as well. I absolutely love my M-A-C Girl About Town lipstick, its flirty and fun and perfect for the summer months. In the fall and winter is when I let my inner vamp shine. Give me the chocolate browns, the wines and even a nice black lip and watch me work it!

What lipstick are you wearing for National Lipstick Day?
