We’re at the end of the fashion week season and as usual I’m watching the trends for the makeup products you need this spring. Spring is all about renewal and new things, and it’s also the perfect time to refresh your beauty routine. Twice a year, I go through my skincare and makeup to chuck any expired or never used products. I did a declutter of eyeshadow palettes, about thirteen total that were barely used and sent them to friends who requested them. Doing this gave me a chance to take inventory of what I had and what I needed. Here are some ways you can refresh your beauty routine for spring.

Refresh Your Makeup
First, lets talk about what products are trending for spring. Coming off the heels of Fashion Week, the theme was blush, blush and more blush. Cream blush is a perfect way to add a flush of color to your cheeks, it’s beginner friendly and can be used as a multi-purpose too. When you wear your blush this spring, try the “draping technique” or what I call 80’s style blush. To achieve this look, blend your blush from the top of your cheekbone up to your temple for a little drama and lots of color.
Since I have dry skin, cream blush works for me because it’s dewy without being greasy. For instance the Merit Flush Blush Balm is a lightweight, sheer coverage blush that adds the most natural flush of color. Of course, I won’t leave you without an affordable option like the ELF Putty Blush. This cream blush easily rivals high end brands in both quality and color payoff. Either way, you’ll be seeing more cream blush all season long.
Refresh Your Skincare
Refreshing your beauty routine for spring also includes your skincare and body care products. Winter’s cold and dry air can really causes my skin to be dull and drier than usual. Exfoliating is a life saver for me and in the spring, I use a physical exfoliant such as the Good Molecules Pineapple Exfoliant. Using a physical exfoliator gets rid of my blackheads and dullness leaving my complexion clear.
Stay Hydrated
As far as moisturizers go, it’s time to lighten them up a bit. In the winter, I use heavy emollients, especially at night because I need to keep my skin hydrated. As the weather gets warmer, I’m outside more and my skin soaks up more sun and humidity and my skin loves it because it’s a natural humectant. Byoma Moisturizing Rich Cream is an affordable moisturizer that I purchased from Target. It’s lightweight but still nourishes and hydrates my skin without it feeling too heavy.
Regardless of the weather, sunscreen is a must. In the warmer months, I up my SPF to at least 50, I’m in the sun so much more and the last thing I want is for my skin to be unprotected. Protecting my skin with SPF includes my lips, did you know your lips can sunburn too? The Black Girl Sunscreen Make It Pop Gloss has an SPF of 50 and works just like the sunscreen you’d apply on your face.
*As a reminder, spring is a great time to check your expiration date on your makeup and skincare products and toss anything that’s past its date. Things like old mascara, ashy lipstick or lip glosses that have separated should be tossed out for safety’s sake. Your sunscreen and skincare products should also be tossed if they’ve been open and not used after 12 months.
As always, let me know if you have any questions and what are the ways that you refresh your beauty routine for spring.
