When we think of Vitamin C, I’m sure our first thought is oranges and other citrus fruits. While we know that those type of healthy foods are good for our insides, Vitamin C is also a potent ingredient for our skin. Vitamin C protects your skin from harmful environmental stressors like pollution and UV light which can cause free radical damage to the skin.

Along with protecting your skin from the environmental stressors mentioned above, it is also a powerful antioxidant that promotes a smooth, glowing and clear complexion. For me, using Vitamin C has been a great way to treat my dark spots left by acne scars.

So the question is, do you need a Vitamin C serum in your skincare routine? The resounding answer is YES! There are tons of *studies done by dermatologists that can attest to Vitamin C being a very helpful ingredient in skincare. Typically, I use my Vitamin C Serums in the morning, followed by my SPF. Here are some of the best and brightest Vitamin C based serums that may be worth you trying.

  • Sephora Collection Super Glow Serum– This serum contains both Vitamin C and E and is hydrating, lightweight and absorbs into my skin easily. I found when using this that it didn’t leave my skin feeling sticky and it lived up to it’s claims to brighten and give my skin a luminous finish.
  • Naturium Vitamin C Complex Serum– I’m currently on my second bottle of this Naturium Vitamin C Serum because it works wonderfully on my skin. It’s hydrating with a gel like texture and absorbs easily without piling or stickiness. This is said to be a good serum for those with acne prone or sensitive skin as it still works to brighten without causing irritation.
  • L’Oreal Revitalift Vitamin C Vitamin E Serum– This serum has 12% pure Vitamin C and tackles fine lines and dull skin with ease. This new formula does have a slight fragrance, which I don’t typically like. However, it wore so well as a daytime serum and had me glowing, that I didn’t mind the scent so much. This serum also has Vitamin E and Salicylic Acid, both ingredients used for hydration and reducing redness.
  • Paula’s Choice 25% Vitamin C Glutathione Serum– This potent serum has 25% vitamin C along with an ingredient called Glutathione which is known to minimize irritation. PC says this serum brightens the skin eliminating dullness. Also it improves uneven skintone, this serum appears to do it all.
  • First Aid Beauty 10% Vitamin C Serum– The First Aid Beauty Serum is a great choice for the sensitive skin girlies who want the benefit of brighter skin without irritation. This serum hydrates with ingredients like squalane and Vitamin E. The Vitamin C works to penetrate the skin without clogging pores leaving the skin plump.

As I stated above, make sure you’re following up any Vitamin C products with your SPF. If you’re using your Vitamin C serum at night, follow up with your normal moisturizer.
