Looking for the best foundations for women over 40? I got you! Here are some of the best foundations I’ve found for women over 40.
There’s no right or wrong when it comes to choosing a foundation if you’re over 40. However I’ve rounded up foundations to make the choosing easier. These are foundations that range from a buildable, luminous finish to a skin tint that looks like your skin but better.
Before we start, you should know that I don’t believe in certain makeup rules when it comes to mature skin. Being a woman over 40, I feel free to explore my creativity with makeup any way that I choose. Also, being a woman over 40 doesn’t mean your skin is necessarily mature. Maturing skin comes from different factors like genetics, environmental factors, and skin conditions like hyperpigmentation.
Another myth about mature skin is that it’s dry, when in fact, you can be over 40 with oily or combination skin. So when choosing a foundation, your skin type should be a top consideration. For me, I have dry skin with hyperpigmentation on my cheek, so I prefer a luminous, medium coverage foundation. Foundation is a personal preference and not one size fits all so here are some recommendations for women over 40.
Best Drugstore Foundation
The newly formulated L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Foundation is the perfect mix between coverage and hydration. With an impressive shade range and wallet friendly price point, the True Match Foundation is a great choice for women over 40 who want a tad more coverage without your skin feeling smothered.
Best Skin Tint
I truly cannot sing the praise of Ami Cole Skin Enhancing Tinted Moisturizer. Though this is a skin tinted moisturizer, it gives a nice medium coverage that you can wear and layer with concealer and powder easily. Since summer is coming, this would be a great foundation to add to your stash. PS, I’m on my third bottle of this skin tint and I have a shade for summer and winter.
Best Medium Coverage Foundations
When you think of Armani, you already think of luxury and the Armani Luminous Silk Foundation fits right into that mold. This foundation is medium-buildable and what I love is that you can apply two layers without the skin feeling cakey. It’s also suitable for all skin types, including mature or oily skin. This foundation truly gives an airbrush finish to the skin.
When makeup artists release foundations, I’m always curious if they’ll get it right and the Makeup by Mario Surreal Skin Foundation gets it right. This foundation works well on normal to dry skin due to the skincare ingredients like squalane and grapeseed oil. It is a buildable coverage, which means I can do two full pumps for and get supreme coverage. One tip, I’d highly suggest going into Sephora to color swatch, the shade range is impressive but I usually wear warm shades but in this one I wear neutral.
The Best Full Coverage Foundation
With full coverage foundations, skin prep is key to ensuring a smooth canvas and a flawless application. I still love a full coverage foundation, especially when I’m going to be on camera or just want more coverage without a lot of layers. Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24 Hr Foundation is a long wearing, sweat proof foundation that gives a natural matte finish. It is SO good and has been a cult favorite for years with good reason.
Another good full coverage foundation is Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation. This foundation is also natural matte and works great on all skin types, but if you’re oily, this is the one for you. Again, skin prep is everything, but age shouldn’t stop us from wearing a full coverage foundation if we choose.
I hope this round-up helps you in choosing a good foundation. Remember, being over 40 doesn’t mean you’re over the hill and need to follow certain makeup “rules” Makeup is personal and is meant to be creative and experimented with.
